Amber and I are at our favorite local coffee bar: Dunn Bros Coffee. As coincidence would have it, John Terry, a local guitarist, is setting up his equipment for a show. It seems sad to me that there are so few people (John Terry, Amber, me and the two employees behind the bar) here on a Saturday evening. I know that the many local Starbucks stores are probably full of people right now, which just goes to show that people, if given the opportunity, will pick image over quality. The really smart people probably just stay home and brew a pot of decaf.
So, we came to Dunn Bros because we just left our Saturday evening service at Milestone Church. The message was about knowing the “real” Jesus that we so often can’t seem to see because we are either too religious or too distracted. The message centered around John 9, where Jesus gives site to the blind man; the miracle wasn’t in the man’s physical healing, but in his spiritual healing when, at the end of the passage, Jesus, in response to the blind man’s question of who the Lord was, says, ” you have seen him and he is the one with whom you are now speaking.” Finding out who Jesus is really is the true miracle.
