Today we mourn the passing of a true man, a man who did not back down when confronted with a challenge like our forefathers used to face. You see, as part of a dare, our hero selflessly, yet boldly, created a hot sauce that was so hot that it killed him within a day (here’s the story). True heroism, to be sure.
As you may know, peppers are rated in terms of the Scoville Scale, which ranges from zero (bell peppers) to somewhere around sixteen million (pure Capsaicin). I would estimate that Mr. Lee was approaching the double-digits on the million scale when he keeled over…perhaps even the air entering his mouth became super-headed and spontaneously combusted before it could reach his wind pipe. I imagine that the situation was pretty much like watching a thermite grenade burn through a diesel engine only with a little less fanfare.
So, what have we learned from this? Well, primarily, we’ve learned that real men never back down from a challenge. We also learned that we wish we had a bottle of this salsa because we could pull some pretty funny pranks at work with it.
