Well, I am officially off from work today, in celebration of Columbus Day. Columbus, as you may know, was played by Peter Falk sometime in the late 1400s, and some have demonized him for his absent-minded interrogations of the Indigenous peoples. I, however, happen to think that Columbus was a pretty cool guy for discovering America (well, not counting the Vikings, who “technically” found America earlier and than Columbus and who then settled in Minnesota and ultimately built a middle-of-the-pack football franchise) and for sailing the Nano, the Pinto Bean and the Santa Claus through uncharted waters (experts now agree that the waters were “blue” in 1492).
Whatever your particular beliefs may be about Columbus, please remember this important fact: His arrival paved the way, hundreds of years later, for me to have a day off from work. And, that’s something worth celebrating. And, now, to all of you who actually have to work today, I want to apologetically and sincerely say, “Nana-nana-boo-boo!” Now, get back to work and quit reading my blog!
